Toku Modern Asian, part of a Long Island restaurant group with about 30 years behind it, opened at Aventura Mall. DIST designed, installed and supports the technology that sets the mood room by room.
Toku has five dining rooms, from intimate spaces to rooms that host hundreds, and the team wanted to shape each one by the hour. The build-out mixed surfaces, ceiling heights and depths, and the sound had to feel big without speakers showing or the budget running away.
DIST ran it as a full-spectrum project, covering both the low-voltage and the IT side. Episode speakers went in both in-ceiling and surface-mounted to suit each surface, with Triad speakers and amplifiers, more than 100 speakers and amps in all. Grilles were painted to disappear into the design.
Control4 ties it together: staff set volume and lighting levels per room from touchscreen tablets, the phone app or Halo remotes around the restaurant. Araknis switches sit on the same Snap One ecosystem, and the OvrC platform gives DIST a remote dashboard to monitor and update every device.
Toku's team picked up Control4 almost immediately and uses it to create different experiences through the day. The speakers are hard to spot, the sound fills each room, and because the system comes from one ecosystem, support and troubleshooting go through one integrator. Training, handoff and ongoing support were part of the job.
